She was born in Brittany to Marino Fleri, a Roman diplomat of Maltese origins but born in Estonia, and to a French mother of Vietnamese origin. She has two brothers and a sister. Due to the work of his father, who was appointed Consul General of Italy in Jerusalem in November 1983, she moved there with her family when she was just a few months old, living there for eight years, until the outbreak of the Gulf War. In 1991 her father was appointed Italian ambassador to Malta, the island where she lived until 1993. At the age of nine, she settled permanently with her family in Rome.
