Authorities say LeeAnna Brumley was taken from a residence to a rural area in northern Pulaski County, where she was shot, struck in the head with a hatchet, and burned. "It was brutal circumstances that she went through," Lt. Bobby Jones said.

The accused, known publicly as Kelsey Michaels, is detained without bond. At a preliminary hearing, Jones testified that Kelsey Michaels had been coerced by Gerald Avalon Hendricks to shoot Brumley under threat to her children. Brumley’s remains were later found burned in a field.

Hendricks, 56, allegedly orchestrated the crime, while his relative, Corkey Hendricks, played a role in disposing of the body. Both men face additional charges of rape, sodomy, and kidnapping.

In a plea deal, Kelsey Michaels pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to eight years, with a minimum of five years to serve before parole eligibility. Prosecutors stated that Brumley’s family approved the plea in exchange for Kelsey Michaels's cooperation against Hendricks, whose trial is set for December 5.
