About Miranda Cosgrove
Miranda Taylor Cosgrove was born May 14, 1993 in Los Angeles, California. She was discovered at a young age singing and dancing around a table in a restaurant, where an agent saw her talent and quickly signed her. Miranda's career started with commercials for Mello Yello, Burger King, McDonalds and more as she auditioned for many roles and finally won her first role as the band's manager in the movie, School of Rock (2003).
While filming School of Rock (2003) in New York, she was informed that her pilot Drake & Josh (2004) had been picked up. She co-starred as Drake and Josh's little sister, while making brief appearances on other Nickelodeon shows, before landing in her own show for the network, iCarly (2007). Her iCarly (2007) popularity helped her launch a singing career, and she was named an MTV Pop Rookie for 2009. Her debut album, "Sparks Fly", was released in 2010 and reached #8 on the Billboard 200 chart, along with two EPs: "About You Now" in 2009, and "High Maintenance" in 2011.
While continuing her singing career, Miranda has expanded upon her voice-over work for the children's movies, including Here Comes Peter Cottontail: The Movie (2005), and the Despicable Me (2010) films and related shorts, as well as expanding her film work with Yours, Mine & Ours (2005), Keeping Up with the Steins (2006) and The Wild Stallion (2009). Her TV reach has extended beyond Nickelodeon, with an appearance on the CBS legal drama The Good Wife (2009) during the show's second season in which she showed the world her dramatic acting side.
In May 2015, Cosgrove was cast in the NBC comedy pilot Crowded, created by Suzanne Martin with executive producer Sean Hayes. Cosgrove played Shea, an Astrophysics PhD graduate from MIT, who does not know what to do in post-college life, and so decides with her sister to move home to find out, driving her parents crazy. The series debuted on March 15, 2016, but was cancelled after one season.
Miranda is currently working on providing her voice as Margo, Gru and Lucy's oldest adoptive daughter in the upcoming 3D computer animated comedy film Despicable Me 3. On March 6, Cosgrove was cast in the upcoming NBC comedy pilot Spaced Out that is currently going in pre-production.
Miranda is well known for her philanthropy. She is an active supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She also visits many children's hospitals and considers Education Through Music among one of her favorite charities. She is a national spokesperson for Light the Night Walk, an organization that creates awareness for blood cancer and leukemia. She is an active supporter and activist for Oceana, the largest international advocacy organization focused solely on ocean conservation.
As of November 2024, Miranda has amassed 9.7 million followers on her Instagram platform.
