Resilience and hard work are among the traits required for anyone to succeed in Hollywood. Shalita Grant understands well the definition of these traits. Before getting her famed role of the agent, Sonja Percy, on NCIS: New Orleans, the actress went through several failed auditions. Until her departure in 2018, she had a recurring role on the show for four seasons.
Before she joined TV, Grant had an unbeaten run in theatre performances. She performed in award-winning productions like The Merchant of Venice and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance on the show Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
Grant was born on August 28, 1988, in Petersburg, US. For her high school education, she attended Baltimore School for the Arts. She then went to Juilliard School on scholarship and graduated with a B.F.A. in Drama.
Grant began her career in arts while studying in high school. While there, she was the Young Arts winner in theatre and Presidential Scholar in the Arts.
Her debut performance was in The Merchant Of Venice, a production of Shakespeare. She performed in stage productions like The Philanderer, The Winter’s Tale, Measure for Measure and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
In 2013, she was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in the comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. In the same year, she won the Theatre Award for outstanding Broadway Debut. In pursuit of a career on TV, Grant left for Los Angeles. After several failed auditions, she finally landed roles in The Good Wife, Bones, Battle Creek, and Melissa and Joey. She then landed a regular role on the series NCIS: New Orleans from the year 2015 to 2018.
