About Candice Bergen
Candice Patricia Bergen (born May 9, 1946) is an American actress and former fashion model. She won five Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards for her portrayal of the title character on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown (1988–1998, 2018) along with actress Faith Ford. She is also known for her role as Shirley Schmidt on the ABC drama Boston Legal (2005–2008). In films, Bergen was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Starting Over (1979), and for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Gandhi (1982).
(Addendum: Candice is also the daughter of world-famous ventriloquist Edgar Bergen, who had an array of "character" puppets at his disposal, including Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd. I'd say it's clear she did a highy credible job of striking out in her own direction and getting free of his "shadow." Of course, another of her more-famous roles is as the poised-but-deadly Kathy Morningside in MISS CONGENIALITY. More on this outspoken beauty as my research develops!)
