I've never understood using 'queer' or 'gay' as an insult. Either the person is in which case it's a factual statement or they're not in which case it isn't. I mean, I'm not going to get offended if someone calls me straight, so why would being called a certain orientation be an insult even if not correct?

Just as using terms in a way to suggest someone is an orientation they are not bigoted, I was just pointing out the nonsensical nature of someone thinking it amounts to an insult as opposed to just bigotry.

The definition of "queer" is "odd or strange". Those using it to describe a sexuality are using it as slang, not it's definition. So, when someone calls someone a queer, what they're really doing is calling someone a weirdo.

Just in case you're not being deliberately obtuse, I'll clarify. When the word QUEER is used today, 99.999999% of the people use it as a synonym of gay; multiple meanings notwithstanding!

It's kinda queer that way back queer meant queer, then queer meant QUEER and then it became taboo to call a QUEER, queer, because it was "hurtful" until "queer" didn't just mean queer anymore, but it now meant QUEER as part of an empowering term as part of one of the ways a queer person would proudly identify one's self if they were indeed queer and not merely queer.

Not too confusing, I hope.
