In 1972 he made his debut in erotic cinema with the films ... "and only Pietro Aretino was saved, with one hand in front and the other behind...", and "Aretino in his reasoning on courtesans, the married women and... the happy cuckolds", the first directed by Silvio Amadio, the second by Enrico Bomba. These were followed by other titles of the same genre, in which Gonella played more significant and leading roles, such as "La bolognese" and "Una vergine in famiglia", both from 1975. In all her appearances in erotic films she always be used for sex and full nudity scenes.
For her performances in the films "A virgin in the family" and "La bolognese", the actress was sanctioned twice by the Latina court in 1976, the first because she was accused of being against the family institution, the second for obscenity crime, with the consequence of two criminal convictions in the first degree, verdicts which were then overturned in subsequent levels of judgement.
