Kandyse McClure is a South African-born actress best known for her role as Anastasia "Dee" Dualla in the acclaimed science fiction series Battlestar Galactica (2004–2009). After moving to Canada, she initially considered a career in medicine and worked multiple restaurant jobs. However, her life took a turn when her mother encouraged her to audition for a play at the Vancouver Fringe Festival. McClure's portrayal of an 18-year-old South African girl in Valley Song, written by Athol Fugard, was a hit, leading her to be discovered by Canadian actor and director William B. Davis. This connection led her to her first acting agent, Richard Lucas, and launched her professional career.
Beyond Battlestar Galactica, McClure has appeared in numerous television series and films, including Jeremiah, Persons Unknown, The Client List, and Hemlock Grove. She has also voiced characters in animated films such as Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale (2010). Her acting career is marked by her versatility, playing roles across different genres from drama to supernatural thrillers.
McClure is also dedicated to philanthropy, particularly with CARE Canada, a non-profit organization that works to fight poverty in developing countries. She travels between North America, South Africa, and the Caribbean, working on projects that serve and inspire communities. Kandyse remains deeply connected to her roots, balancing her acting career with her passion for global humanitarian work.
