About Lita Baron
Lita Baron (born Isabel Castro; August 11, 1923 – December 16, 2015) was a Spanish-born American actress and singer who appeared in movies and television shows for over 30 years.
In 1928, young Isabel, at the age of 4 years old, emigrated with her family to the USA. Her parents were Pedro and Francesca Castro.
After moving, the family settled and lived in River Rouge, Michigan, where she attended River Rouge High School.
Baron started her career in show business as a singer and dancer with Xavier Cugat's orchestra. Billed as Isabelita, she also had her own act in nightclubs in Hollywood.
In 1944, she appeared in several Hollywood films, which was the start of a long career in films and television series. Her last screen role came in the 1979 film Bitter Heritage, in which her then ex-husband Rory Calhoun starred. She later worked in radio and real estate.
In the early 1970's, Lita moved to Palm Springs with her daughters. Her colorful dating life included relationships with George Burns, Bill Holden, and George Murphy.
She started a new phase in her career when she launched the popular radio show, "Lunch with Lita". The show was hosted by Mel Haber at his fabulous Ingleside Inn and featured interviews with many of Lita's famous friends, including Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Robert Shaw, to name just a few.
In 1948, Baron married Hollywood actor Rory Calhoun. The couple had three daughters: Cindy, Tami, and Lori. Baron and Calhoun divorced in 1970, and she cited his multiple extra-marital affairs as one of the reasons for the separation.
Isabel died on December 16, 2015 at the age of 92 after complications from a fall, which had also resulted in a broken hip.
