About Monica Lopez Moyano
She graduated in Physics of the Earth and the Cosmos in 1997 from the University of Barcelona. She also has a master's degree in political analysis from the Open University of Catalonia in 2016 and a university specialization course in Brand and Corporate Communication, also in 2016 and at the same university.
After finishing her physics studies she joined SAM, the first Spanish company dedicated to meteorological information. She debuted on television on September 15, 1997 in Vía Digital's Teletiempo space and later on Canal Satélite Digital's Canal Meteo.
After her time at El 33, she became part of the TV3 meteorology team where between April 23, 2004 and June 27, 2008, she was a meteorologist for the morning program Els matins. She also presented the 2006-2007 year-end chimes on TV3 with Tomàs Molina. Since 2005 she has collaborated in the popular magazine NAT with a section on meteorological phenomena.
On April 23, 2008, Fran Llorente (TVE News Director) and Javier Pons (TVE Director) offered to replace José Antonio Maldonado, joining RTVE on July 1, 2008 as the new director of the Meteorology Area and presenter. from El tiempo en el Telediario 2nd edition of TVE. Her first appearance in space was on September 1, 2008. There was a two-month transition period with her predecessor; Maldonado presented his last show on August 28, 2008 and was until September 30, 2008 as director. Since October 1, 2008, López has been the de facto director of the Spanish Television meteorological programs.3 Since then she has been absent on two occasions due to sick leave: the first, between February 11, 2010 and on August 23, 2010 and the second, between October 7, 2011 and January 16, 2012. In the 2012-2013 season he went on to present El tiempo en el Telediario 1st edition but the following season he returned to Newscast 2nd edition.
On December 3, 2012, ACOMET, the Association of Meteorology Communicators, was publicly presented, with the basic objective of improving meteorological information and dissemination that is done in Spain through the different media. López is a co-founder and is part of its board of directors as president. As a member of ACOMET she has participated in updating the Manual of Use of Meteorological Terms, which had initially been published in 1992.
Together with the State Meteorological Agency, it has carried out a project in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization within the field of communication: the video in Spanish of the series "Weather in 2050", in which a space over the time within 35 years.
On May 8, 2020, it was announced that she would take charge of TVE's morning slot in September 2020 after the resignation of María Casado. On May 29, 2020, she said goodbye after 11 years as director of the Meteorology Department of TVE and the presentation of the second edition of El tiempo. Between September 7, 2020 and July 2, 2021, she presented and directed La hora de La 1.
On August 2, 2021, she joined the Daily News Area of TVE as an editor, and later she became head of the Green Planet Unit of RTVE.
Since September 12, 2022, she is once again director of the Meteorology department of TVE and presenter of El tiempo 2. On December 16, 2022, it is announced that he will return to the morning slot of La 1 with Now or Never - a program produced by Catorce Comunicación that is broadcast between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday from January 23, 2023 to January 28. June 2024—, remaining at the head of the Meteorology department of TVE, but abandoning the presentation of El tiempo 2 on December 12, 2022.
