The actress was born into a middle/upper class family and became passionate about acting from an early age: at four years old she played the role of Maria in the parish play, continuing to appear on stage and studying dance at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. At the age of twelve, her father forbade her to continue acting until Anna, at 19, having abandoned her university studies after a year, left the family to join a group of bohemian friends, moving with them to Ciociaria. In 1976 she left Italy to go to Toronto where she was hired as a presenter in a television show for the Italian-Canadian community.
She was the protagonist in the erotic film by Tinto Brass "Senso '45".
