Where do you get your information?
Do you know anything about bra sizes?
Damn Sam.
If Betty Blue measured 39 at the bust she sure as hell didn't wear a 39D bra. She would have worn a 34E or a 36D.
A gal who measures 34 around the rib cage and 37 at the bust would wear a 34C. You use the rib cage number and count up to the bust number. 1, 2, 3. Now do the alphabet on fingers till you have three fingers showing. A, B, C.
So I'm betting Betty measured 34 but didn't want to tell the world she wore an E cup. That just wasn't done back then. She might have measured 35 at the ribcage but there weren't any 35 bras back then she had to wear a 36 but 36C could never hold those amazing girls of hers. It had to be a 36D
I'm holding with her wearing a 34E. 34 plus 5 equals 39.

Listen, unfortunately even 90% of women have no clue how to measure cup sizes. Let alone men who all seem to think the bust measurement is the number in front of the cup size. It is the band size, and each inch over it for the bust size constitutes the letter after the number. Band size 32 would only have a D cup size if the bust was 36 inches. Uneven bust sizes like 31,33,35,37,39,41,43 would have the D cups have a band size that would be uneven too, at 27,29,31,33,35,37,39...so rounding up and inch for the band size would be in order not to have it pinch. So a 27 band and 31 bust size would be a 28D cup, a 39 band size and 43 bust size would be a 40D cup size.
C cups add 3 inches, but with the opposite effect for the bust size, having to round up the cup size if the bust size is an EVEN number and band size thus an uneven one. So a 31 band and 34 bust would have one wear a 32C cup.
With B cups same logic as with D cups applies, 31 band and 33 bust would be a 32B, 35 band and 37 bust a 36B.
With A cups it can only be 1 option,as rounding up an inch will lead to a 0 difference of band and bust, which is an AAA cup basically.
Sister sizes is also a thing for bra sizes, and it all comes down to the actual band size and bust size, however many inches between them. if indeed she had 39 in bust and was a D cup, then she would have a 35 inch band size, would need to round up, a 36D cup. If the difference of band and bust was a legit 5 or even a 4.5 inch one,she would be a 34E, obviously.
