About Marilyn Star
Born Kathryn Gannon, she lived in Prince George British Columbia where she danced as a child for Prince Charles.
In1990 she moved to Edmonton, Alberta, to study pre-medicine where she became a feature dancer on the Western Canadian circuit. She then moved to Los Angeles to enter the adult film industry, debuting in 1994 with her first film: More Dirty Debutantes 30. She married Japanese businessman Bruce in 1994. Akahoshi, whom she divorced three years later.
In December 1999, she was accused of abusing inside information by using bank merger information given by her former lover James McDermott, an investment banker and former president and CEO of the investment banking firm of Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, and that She shared with another ex-lover, this time the businessman Anthony Pomponio. Prosecutors indicated that Marylin Star used this information to illegally obtain $88,135 in the stock market from May 1997 to August 1998.
Anticipating her arrest, Star fled to Vancouver, outside the American jurisprudence, where she married stockbroker Michael Gilley in 2000. She was finally arrested on May 24, 2000 and extradited to the United States. Gilley filed for divorce on October 13. Star pleaded guilty to the charge of insider trading and accepted a three-month sentence at a Women's Correctional Facility in Danbury, Connecticut,5 which began on December 2, 2002.
